Adventures in the Jungle

Adventures in the Jungle

On Saturday, 15th January, sixteen staff and volunteers from JIMS & Kingdom youth clubs gathered for a day of team development. The group enjoyed a tree top terror before battling it out on the paint-ball field.

The challenge for the day was to spend time getting to know something new about each person present. The young people shared laughs while being able to bridge a few new friendships throughout the afternoon. There were two boys who stuck out as amazing encouragers – they helped a few of us deathly afraid for our lives on the tree top course make it through without physical damage.

In the morning our group enjoyed hanging from ropes and scurrying along zip lines…the high school girls were certainly showing up the boys with speed and accuracy when crossing the tricky ropes. All in all, the ropes course was great fun – and only one realized that it wasn’t entirely his cup of tea (the heights that is – after much cautious trepidation, he does not think he’d ever do it again).

Following such terror, the group split into two teams to battle it out in a make-shift cemetery using paint-balls. Although we were warned it may scar us for life, no one received any ultimate blows. The green team (lead by Patrick and Peter) won 2-1 before the final game…in which everyone turned on each other.

We’d like to thank the International Fund for Ireland for providing funds allowing our group to bond and develop great volunteer relationships. Hopefully the communication skills and encouragement techniques will continue to live on throughout the rest of the year at both clubs.
