Alternative Youth Focus Project: Carlingford
Thanks to Place Initiatives, a small group from JIMS and Kingdom spent a day enjoying various team building activities. From an indoor communications breakdown maze to building rafts and pier jumping the group had a great day being challenged and encouraged.
Although our group knew the basics about each other, we grew closer together due to the team building exercises. Such challenges included getting the whole team across a small body of water without touching the water using only two boards: this got various members invovled in leadership. By the end of similar activities, the youth seemed to have more self confidence in themselves and better team communication.
A favourite part of the day included racing rafts made by group members. Though the rafts did managed to float, there was one that didn’t make it back to shore in one piece. As usual, we competed boys against girls – the ladies won the challenge in time to spare.
Our group enjoyed Carlingford Adventure Centre very much and have voiced that they’d love to return and do a few of the harder challenges in the future. In addition, we thank Sarah and Darryn for coordinating the day – and we look forward to what’s next with Alternative Youth Focus. This was only the beginning of a three month programme that JIMS and Kingdom are partnering in to create space for open chats and learning about culture, history, and identity.
