Clean Coast Award 2009: Best Youth Group
Thursday, October 22, a few from JIMS attended the Clean Coast Awards. Hosted by Coca-Cola and Tidy Northern Ireland, the awards regonized various groups and individuals from Northern Ireland and their effort to keep the coastal way clean. After receiving our award for best youth group, Peter Thorogood shared his thanks on behalf of JIMS and the team that cleaned the Kilkeel beach in July 2009.
The ‘Best Youth Group’ award was presented to JIMS [Kilkeel Parish Bridge Assocation, Ltd] for the group effort that young people made during Project 6.8 in July 2009. So first of all, thank you to the committed team who gave two weeks to ‘tidy’ Kilkeel: the estate, river-walk, and beach. And also, thank you to those young people who joined for a day here and there – you brought a freshness to each day! Second, thanks to you leaders [Becca, Kimberly, Kenny, Samantha, Christopher, and Adam] who gave of their summer time to encourage and motivate groups of young people throughout the two weeks – you were a blessing!
And once more, thank you to the Newry and Mourne Council for providing equipment and support for Project 6.8. Also, thank you to the funders: SELB Youth Intervention and the Summer Splash Programme.
For more details about Project 6.8 please see previous news articles on the JIMS site.
