Deal or No Deal

Deal or No Deal

An exciting evening ended for one contestant with the ecstatic exclamation of, “That’s incredible!!”

Saturday, 19 June was a great night for one young person in JIMS. Twenty players were selected to play in the JIMS version of Deal or No Deal. From those twenty John McGrath with box number 1 was chosen to compete for the prize. His dreams of winning the ultimate prize were dashed in the very first round when the box worth £250 was opened. The banker was pleased with round one and offered John £10. His response? “No deal!”

Neal Myers, the host for the evening, asked John what he might need to do differently. “Pray more,” was his repsonse. This tactic seemed to work for the next two rounds and John received offers from the banker of £20 and £37.50. After consulting with other contestants John decided to play on and refused the banker’s deal.

The fourth round caused the audience to begin to wonder if John had made the wrong decision as more of the larger numbers were disappearing. As the game progressed John refused every one of the banker’s deals. The last two amounts on the board were 80p and £80, and the banker offered John the swap. After sniffing his box and the one remaining, a most unusual method of discernment, John could only say that they “smelled like indecision.” His ultimate decision to stick with his original box payed off in the end as he opened it to reveal the £80!! Shouts of joy echoed around the room…as did a promise of a full collection plate in church the next morning.
