The Simple Basics…

The Simple Basics…

Wednesday, the 8th September, JIMS and Kingdom youth began a simple training course in self defence. The youth learned simple moves to help counteract attacks while learning respect for martial arts and personal boundaries.

The youth showed up with various expectations; thanks to Paul Culter (instructor) the youth quickly realized this was a hands on course. They were able to test out various moves and punches – they learned that we were made with some natural weapons. Overall, Paul began instilling in the youth the necessity of respecting each other, an attacker, and our abilities.

Boys and girls gained basic knowledge of ‘common sense’, i.e. don’t walk along in the dark, park a car under a street light, and don’t go home if it’s empty and someone is following you. Although Kilkeel is a safe enough place, these are basics that may come in handy when the youth move to university or out of the home. At the end of the day, Paul challenged the youth to make smart choices and not go looking for trouble.

Once more, we’re very thankful to the International Fund for Ireland – they have provided the funds making this programme possible.
